The Department of Public Safety is holding open house tours of its crime lab as part of National Forensic Week.
The tour takes people through a fake crime scene so they can get a look at different parts of the lab.
"This gives us the opportunity to express and show what we are able to do, what are limitations are and literally what forensic science is all about,” Brady Mills with the Texas Department of Public Safety said.
Austin's laboratory is outfitted to handle drug analysis, blood alcohol analysis, DNA testing, firearms testing and trace evidence.
Forensic experts will tell you, unlike on TV, most crimes aren't solved in an hour.
