Austin police say the body of a man who jumped from an Interstate 35 bridge into Lady Bird Lake has been found.
Emergency crews had been searching for the man, who is in his 30s, since Tuesday afternoon.
A call came in around 12:45 p.m. saying someone had jumped off the I-35 bridge at Riverside into Lady Bird Lake.
APD, the Austin Fire Department and EMS crews were involved in the search.
Police say they're not sure if the man was suicidal or not. But friends told police he was hot and wanted to go for a swim.
It's illegal to jump off of highway bridges, and it's also illegal to swim in Lady Bird Lake.
"Not only is it illegal, it's very dangerous," said Lt. Andre De la Reza, with the Austin Fire Department. "There are many underwater unseen hazards. From construction debris with rebar and thick mud that if you hit the bottom it will suck you down and keep under water, to trees. All things that can harm you."
The man's identity has not been released.
