Police busted up what they say was a dog fighting ring in Harlem Monday.
They conducted a raid at 316 West 112th Street after neighbors called 311 to complain about loud dogs barking.
When they arrived, investigators say the officers found dog fighting equipment inside.
Brandon Baez, 41, was arrested and faces several charges including cruelty to animals.
People in the neighborhood we spoke with were not that surprised.
"Sounded like a lot of dogs, I just...like I said I thought they were there for protection, that was it," one neighbor said.
"We saw dogs barking and jumping on the window and stuff like that yeah," said another. "It didn't look like they was being treated well, but there was a lot of them, maybe at the window maybe 4 or 5 at a time."
Eleven Pit bulls were rescued.
Some had scars on their faces, their ears clipped, and their teeth ground down.
Most were also malnourished.
They're now being looked after by Animal Care and Control.
