AUSTIN, Texas — Efforts to empower black business owners are in full gear this week as part of the first ever Austin Black Business Week.

  • Black Business Week runs through Friday
  • Highlights Black- and Women-owned businesses

The group, Black Women in Business, has hosted a series of seminars this week for small business owners to gain insights. Speakers highlighted how to get a business from a concept to reality, the importance of branding and highlighting what sets their businesses apart from competitors.

"I have definitely seen their bottom line increase, as far as profits are concerned," said Rose Smith, founder of BWIB. "I have seen a leveling up, so to speak, of the organization as a whole for the members."

Black Business Week runs the rest of the week in Austin and Killeen. The group's other Texas chapters plan to host similar events next year.
