AUSTIN, Texas — As Texas residents work to recover from the winter storm, Austin Water has learned of unneighborly water use in the community.

During this period and until further notice, all outdoor water use in the city is prohibited.

Along with the boil water notice which took effect Wednesday, February 17 and continued communications urging only essential water use, Austin Water Director Greg Meszaros has issued emergency water use restrictions in an effort to pull out of this emergency event.

The restrictions are necessary to ensure water is available for hospitals, firefighting, power plants and other primary needs.

According to the press release from Saturday, customers may not:

  • Use water for irrigation or testing of irrigation equipment
  • Wash vehicles, including at commercial car wash facilities
  • Wash pavement or other surfaces
  • Add water to a pool or spa
  • Conduct foundation watering
  • Operate an ornamental fountain or pond, other than aeration necessary to support aquatic life
