LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Unified School District schools are set to receive hundreds of air purifiers that were donated this week by Chicago Public Schools, officials announced Thursday.
The Council of Great City Schools, a coalition of 78 urban public school systems across the nation, coordinated the donation, linking LAUSD and CPS. An estimated 580 air purifiers were transported in partnership with the Port of Los Angeles and global logistics company, C.H. Robinson.
About 90 pallets of purifiers and filters came from Chicago to Los Angeles thanks to C.H. Robinson, as well as companies BNSF, Day N Night Transportation, DCLI and Legend, which all donated services to this effort free of charge.
The final pallet arrived an at LAUSD warehouse earlier this week.
Purifiers are soon to be delivered to classrooms in a bid to support students impacted by the January wildfires, according to the Port of Los Angeles.
