PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- Deputies have released surveillance video of a pedestrian hit-and-run in the village of Pittsford. Editor's note: the video shows a pedestrian flung through the air, and some may find it disturbing or upsetting.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office stated the incident happened Feb. 5 on Main Street. The video shows a 13-year-old girl hit while in the crosswalk.
The driver initially pulls over, walks to the victim, then drives off again. The teen, who bounced back up, had scrapes and bruises, and as the video continues, is seen running down the sidewalk.
Investigators say they are looking for a grey 2016 Toyota Camry SE with an aftermarket sunroof and tint. Witnesses describe the driver as only between 65 and 70 years old.
The video of the incident has raised pedestrian safety concerns in the village of Pittsford.
“The active transportation plan is taking a look at the design of all of our roads in the village and trying to repair some of the ill-conceived previous changes to them and make them safer for all users of the roadways," village mayor Bob Corby said.
Village leaders hope to start work soon on their high priority plan to fix road designs that are not pedestrian use friendly.
