The Broken Spoke has been called Texas' best Honky Tonk.

It's brought music and dancing to Austin for the last 40 years. On Wednesday night a crowd gathered to celebrate its anniversary.

"The secret is to treat people like you want to be treated when you come to a place. That's what I did … Another thing, I have never changed anything. I kept it country just like its supposed to be. Just like when I was a kid, my parents would take me to places like this. So, I thought, 'When I get out of the Army, I'm going to open me up a place of my own.' … And I visualized a place like no other and now I'm living my dream and people let me do it," owner James White said.

Austin has an knack for keeping special places like the Broken Spoke and Antone's open for a long time.

"At first I used to work about 16 hours a day, seven days a week. And all you have to do is just wait around 40 years and it comes to you, you know. Nothing to it." White said.

The party was scheduled to last until 2 a.m.
