COLUMBIA, S.C. - The University of South Carolina Athletic department is trending up in a number of areas. The football team ended the year as hot as any team in the nation thanks to quarterback Lanorris Sellers.

The women's basketball team is still among the best in the nation as defending champions.

The department is also going through a transition with a new head baseball coach and a new athletic director starting this year.

Success has shown up in the department's economics as well. Despite spending nearly $184 million from July 2023 to June 2024, the athletic department only reported a deficit of $200,000. The NCAA mandates that every institution provide a finance report from the previous fiscal year.

The report shows that despite a less than stellar football season where they failed to make a bowl game, the program recorded a five million dollar increase in profit. The report attributes much of that increase to ticket sales from the season opening game vs the UNC Tar Heels in Charlotte.

The report also details a nearly two million dollar increase in revenue from home football game parking, concession and merchandise sales.

Despite bringing home another national title, the women's basketball team was responsible for a more than five million dollar deficit. The main reason is a lack of media rights compensation.

Despite a first round exit, the men's basketball team made a surplus of nearly three and a half million. Football and men's basketball continue to be the only sports that regularly have a surplus.
