Columbia, S.C.— The Columbia City Council met on Tuesday to discuss planned updates for the area's parks and recreation amenities.
During the meeting, council members went over several areas that require renovations; noting that parks and recreation is a key part to better health and quality of life for their residents.
One improvement includes shade sails that will be installed at Hyatt Park. The council says the shades are needed to help keep the playground equipment cool during the hot summer months.
A new playground for kids to enjoy will also be installed at Randall Avenue Park. This comes after a green space, picnic shelter, fencing, park benches and picnic tables were installed during the summer of 2024.
The city is also planning for restrooms to be renovated and upgraded to hands free technology at several different locations throughout the city.
