Coming off back-to-back conference wins, Syracuse (8-8, 2-3 ACC) looks to make it three in a row against Louisville at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the JMA Wireless Dome.
The Orange are coming off their best win of the season, in come-from-behind fashion over Boston College. They outscored the Eagles 33-17 after falling behind by eight with 8:51 to go. JJ Starling led the way, scoring 20 of his game-high 26 points in the second half.
"I just loved our team's composure," head coach Adrian Autry said after the win. "I thought down the stretch, we made the plays that we needed to make. We made foul shots, we got stops that we needed to get, we took care of the basketball. I was just proud of the way we handled ourselves down the stretch."
The second half was a reversal of everything Syracuse has struggled with this season. The Orange shot 57% from the field, shot 13 for 14 from the free-throw line, and committed just two turnovers. Five Orange scored in double figures; Kyle Cuffe put up 10 points off the bench, hitting two 3-pointers late to close it out. The Orange are now 2-1 since Starling returned.
They'll look to carry this momentum against the red-hot Cardinals (12-5, 5-1 ACC). Louisville has won six in a row and is having a resurgent season under first-year head coach Pat Kelsey. They're led by their trio of senior guards: Chucky Hepburn, Reyne Smith and Terrence Edwards. All three of them are averaging more than 13 points per game. Hepburn leads Louisville wth 15.1 PPG.
Louisville isn't the most efficient offensive team, standing just 16th in the ACC in field goal percentage and 3-point percentage. However, they shoot a ton of threes. The Cardinals are ninth in the nation in 3-point attempts per game and are second in the ACC in total made threes. Success on the glass allows the Cardinals to get extra possessions, as they have an ACC-high 656 rebounds this season.
On the flip side, Syracuse has made 88 threes this season, fewest in the conference. The Orange have been a strong rebounding team (38.9 per game, third in the ACC), but the status of top rebounder Donnie Freeman is still up in the air. After missing Saturday's game against Boston College, Autry maintained that his freshman forward is day-to-day.
