The Syracuse women's basketball team fell Thursday to SMU on a last-second shot in overtime 72-71.

With 18 points in the loss, guard Georgia Woolley surpassed 1,000 points as a member of the Orange. In total, the guard has 1,499 points in her career across four-combined seasons at Buffalo and 'Cuse.

With 17 seconds to play in overtime, center Izabel Varejao grabbed an offensive rebound that led to a second-chance layup, putting the Orange up one, but SMU responded with a last-second field goal to earn the victory.

Varejao recorded her first double-digit scoring performance since Dec. 18 at Binghamton, finishing the game with 15 points in her second-consecutive start.

The loss moves Syracuse to 6-9 on the season. SMU takes the 1-0 lead in the lifetime series between programs as the matchup was the first ever between the Orange and the Mustangs, who are playing their first season in the ACC.

Syracuse returns to the JMA Wireless Dome for a Sunday night game against the Miami Hurricanes. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
