It’s been one year since Wynn Hospital opened its doors in downtown Utica and in that time, it's come a long way.
It was quite the celebration for a new hospital a year ago – a Vegas-themed party in tribute to Steve Wynn, who donated $50 million for the Wynn Hospital in downtown Utica.
Since that day, there were some issues, such as the turnaround times of ambulances. But hospital leaders say those problems have been addressed.
What You Need To Know
- It’s been one year since Wynn Hospital opened its doors in downtown Utica
- Since opening, there were some issues, such as the turnaround times of ambulances, but hospital leadership said the problems have been addressed
- The opening meant the closure of two other Mohawk Valley Health System campuses, St. Elizabeth's and St. Luke's
- What the future holds for those sites is yet to be announced
“One of the rocky starts we had was the turnaround time of the ambulances into the ED, when we started at like 90 minutes. We got that down to an average of about 12. Now, when it gets really busy, it can pop up in an afternoon. But our overall average is very good," said Mohawk Valley Health System President and CEO Darlene Stromstad.
The Wynn's opening meant the closure of two other Mohawk Valley Health System campuses, St. Elizabeth's and St. Luke's.
What the future holds for those sites is yet to be announced, but a community forum about St. Luke’s future will be held Wednesday evening.
“A very timely question to ask about our old campuses. There are activities going on with both committees for both hospitals," Stromstad said.
The parking garage for Wynn Hospital was also completed earlier this year.
