The aftermath of flooding in the North Country will somewhat impact how some students and teachers start the upcoming school year.

Classes are slated to start in person as scheduled next week on Tuesday, the day after Labor Day, according to Lowville Academy and Central School Superintendent Rebecca Dunckel.

Crews are working around the clock to get classrooms ready.

“We know we have a lot of work to get students in here on time," Dunckel told Spectrum News 1 two week ago. "Teachers are just very anxious to get in and do the work that they would normally do."

Officials say first grade will be moved into a different space in the school building.

As for the athletic fields and gymnasium, all school sports teams that use those facilities will have to practice and play scheduled games elsewhere.

Home football games will be played at the Lewis County Fairgrounds.

Dunckel says flood damages have cost Lowville Schools more than $10 million this summer.
