Typically, the commanding general on Fort Drum stays on for two years. But tomorrow, the North Country says goodbye to Major General Milford Beagle after just a little more than a year.

He says he helped soldiers on base by doing little things like fixing roads to the bigger issues like training to ensure soldiers are best positioned to return home. Beagle says when he first arrived, he had heard about the famous relationship between Fort Drum and the North Country.

He says having lived it, he now fully understands how important it is.

“That’ll be a tough pill to swallow knowing you can’t come back to work with the team. You’re always part of the team, but you can’t be inside the team because you’ve exhausted the opportunities there. That’ll be pretty hard," said Beagle.

Beagle turns over command of the 10th Mountain Division and Fort Drum to Major General Gregory Anderson. Anderson previously served as the 10th’s deputy commanding general.

Beagle next reports to Kansas, where he'll be promoted to lieutenant general.
