A potential financial crisis is looming in the city of Ogdensburg, as the state comptroller's office found it has used up 87.6% percent of its constitutional tax limit.
If something isn't done, the city will go over its limit by more than 3%. That means the state would be required to withhold some state aid payments.
The comptroller designating Ogdensburg as a "high risk zone." They say anyone involved in the city's budget needs to closely analyze its tax data and come up with a solution.
This comes after the city manager proposed a 2021 budget with a 6.5% reduction in taxes, and the elimination of 10 positions from the city's fire department.
