North Country leaders are working together to tackle the growing opioid crisis.
Congresswoman Elise Stefanik joined a discussion in Lewis County Monday. Local leaders say they struggle with funding, and a lack of personnel is slowing down the drug treatment and recovery process.
Deadly overdoses have gone down in the county, but there's still a need for more treatment facilities.
"One of the pieces of feedback that I heard from participants today is that they were in partnership with healthcare facilities in other counties,” said Stefanik. “We need to make sure that as we're giving federal dollars, we understand that some of this is regional. And it needs to be programs that go beyond one county to the next."
Stefanik plans to visit at least 10 more counties in the district before the end of the year.
