There are some upcoming changes for people visiting Fort Drum.

The post is opening a brand new visitor center to make the background check process smoother. Visitors just have to show required documentation in exchange for a visitors pass.

With the new center also comes an updated visitor access policy. Guests will no longer need a sponsor to get on post between 7:30 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. as long as they have the new passes.

"It'll free up traffic at the gates because now once we process them here we can send them right around the gate, without having to back up traffic at the gates more," said Fort Drum Physical Security Chief Charles Childs.

The new visitor center will be located right next to the main gate. It's set to open next month.
