Snow recovery efforts are now underway in North Country communities as some areas in Jefferson and Lewis counties have seen up to six feet of snow over the past few days.

The sun was a welcomed sight Friday, but there is still a state of emergency in effect for Jefferson County.

Melting snow is causing some slippery roads and there have been a number of crashes. Roof collapses from heavy snow are another issue.

Watertown DPW Superintendent Patrick Keenan said it's a storm he'll never forget.

"This ranks up there,” said Keenan. “It's one of the more significant events. This month of January I think were at 92 inches accumulations of snow. Our annual historical average is 100 inches."

Another problem is finding a place to move all that snow. People are still urged to avoid travel while plows figure it out and clear the roads.
