1. 10th Mountain soldier follows in great-grandfather's footsteps
What was supposed to be a simple training event in Colorado, the birthplace of Fort Drum’s 10th Mountain Division, turned into a very special journey for one young soldier. A gift from his grandmother helped him discover his family's history as he learned he’d be training on the very mountains his great-grandfather did 80 years ago.
2. Jamesville-DeWitt students eligible for free school meals
The school district announced that all five district buildings reapplied for the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Community Eligibility Provision Program, and all were approved. Previously, only three schools qualified, according to the district.
3. 18-year-old runs for Southern Tier school board while still in school
High school graduations are right around the corner, and for tens of thousands of New York students, that often means leaving the area for a new oppurtinity. But one senior in the Southern Tier is looking to take on a unique opportunity, and he’s doing it while he’s still in school.
4. Twins study same degree at same university, will intern at same company
At Cornell University, two college students studying mechanical engineering are twin sisters. Ashley and Verena Padres are looking forward to a career focused on space technology innovation. Ashley and Verena have spent their lives doing everything together, like playing basketball, taking classes, even studying for the same degree, and now making an impact on aerospace innovations.
5. Trump trial updates: Judge says closing arguments expected next week
The defense's cross-examination of Michael Cohen in Donald Trump's hush money trial ended with Cohen reiterating that he discussed the Stormy Daniels deal with the former president.
6. Senate to take up bipartisan border bill previously blocked by Republicans, Schumer says
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer on Sunday said that he plans to put a sweeping border security bill negotiated by a bipartisan group of lawmakers on the floor for a vote this week, even after Republicans blocked it earlier this year.
