They spend most of their time outdoors capturing the view on canvas. All this month, you’re invited to see original artworks from some of the best from the Genesee Valley Plein Art Painters Club.
Barbara Jablonski takes an easel and her paints pretty much everywhere and anywhere she goes.
“Some people send postcards and other people paint pictures," said Jablonski, president of the Genesee Valley Plein Art Painters.
She paints on vacation and during “paint-outs” with the Genesee Valley Plein Art Painters Club. Ninety of the best of them are at the 18th judged and juried art show that’s on view at Barnes & Noble in Pittsford.
“All have been painted and completed on-site, outdoors. You’re representing on your canvas what you feel and what you see of the scene that you’re looking at,” said Jablonski.
These artists captured cityscapes, sunrises and sunsets at places that many of us have probably been to.
“We’ve gone to the Adirondacks. We go to the Finger Lakes. Our members are from Buffalo to Syracuse to Fairhaven, although most of our members are from the Finger Lakes and Rochester,” said Jablonski.
The paintings are so good that you feel like you are right there at that very moment.
Steve BonDurat has six paintings in this year’s art show.
“Typically, if I’m going somewhere, I’m bringing my easel. It’s a great way to capture all that’s around us and the beauty of nature and surroundings,” said BonDurant.
All of the art show paintings are for sale. It’s on view at the Pittsford Barnes & Noble Community Room until Jan. 28. This weekend, the artist reception and award ceremony is free and open to the public and will honor the best in show. It runs Saturday, 2 to 4 p.m., in the Community Room at the Pittsford Barnes and Noble on Monroe Avenue.
