ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester's history, and some of its landmarks, discovered by bike.
Cyclists are ready to lead on the latest edition of the Young Urban Preservationists Scavenger Hunt. The group calls itself YUP.
The event is called Bikes, Beer and Buildings and it is back after a two-year pandemic pause.
YUP is part of the Landmark Society, and for the seventh time, it is putting together a cycling scavenger hunt to get more people out and exploring Rochester history. You can ride solo or as a team. Just solve the clues, locate the historic places and you could win some prizes.
“What we love about it is that we get to show off the city," said Caitlin Meives, director of preservation at the Landmark Society of Western New York. "You get to see local landmarks that everyone knows and we get to expose people to some hidden gems. We get people biking around the city. So we get a mix of folks who are hardcore cyclists and folks who maybe have never biked on the city street so we get to expose folks to all those different things.”
Even with beer in the name, this event is open to all ages.
It starts at 1 p.m. Sunday at Swiftwater Brewing on Mt. Hope Avenue. Tickets are $15 per person.
Riders will bike anywhere from 5 to 8 miles around Rochester and they'll get a free drink at Swiftwater.
