SOUTH BRISTOL, N.Y. — Ski resorts in our area are getting ready for the season as they get just the right amount of snow to cover their slopes. Skiers and snowboarders will have to follow new rules though to remain safe in the pandemic.
At Bristol Mountain, they will ask you to come out of your car ready to hit the slopes to avoid needing to get dressed inside the lodge.
Skiers will have to keep a mask on at all times but do have the option to take it off once at the top of the mountain right before coming down or while eating and drinking.
On the ski lifts, only people within your party can ride together. Single riders can sit on the opposite end of the bench with another single rider or have the option to ride alone.
Bristol Mountain asks for people to get their tickets in advance, especially for the weekends and during the holidays.
Vice President Steven Fuller said skiing will be great for those wanting to avoid being cooped up inside for the winter.
"Looking forward to a great ski season this year," said Fuller. "One of the great things about skiing and snowboarding is it's outside and that's really going to be the focus this year. Skiing and snowboarding offer a great opportunity to come outside, bring your family, reintroduce them to the mountain. Or, if it's your first time, we have great lessons packages, learn how to ski or snowboard, and really pick up something new this winter."
Fuller says these past couple of weeks, the temperature has been perfect for snowmaking. Last season the snowmaking team won the "I Am a Snowmaker Competition" from International Ski Area Management for going above and beyond to make great snow.
