The annual Walk to End Alzheimer's in Canandaigua is coming up later this month, with the goal of supporting research and advocacy efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association.

Set for Saturday, Sept. 28, at Finger Lakes Community College, organizers say there are more than 426,500 people living with Alzheimer's in New York and nearly 7 million across the country. Millions more family, friends and caregivers work to assist those battling the disease.

“This is a pivotal moment in the fight against Alzheimer’s. There are now treatments that change the course of the disease,” Julie DeMersman, director of development for the Rochester & Finger Lakes Region Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, said in a statement. “We hope that everyone in the community can join us to help the Alzheimer’s Association raise awareness and funds for families facing the disease today, take more steps toward treatments and finally end this disease.”

A ceremony will also take place in the Promise Garden, where walkers will carry flowers of various colors, each color representing their connection to Alzheimer’s.
