HAMLIN, N.Y. — A pandemic Halloween will look a little different this year. Communities are finding ways to safely celebrate with costumes and candy.
The Hamlin Recreation Department is preparing a spooky–filled Halloween event for families.
Hamlin is known for its annual “Scream Fest."
Hamlin director Anke Applebaum and her staff are just tweaking it a bit this year. She gave Spectrum News a behind the scenes look at all the Halloween props they’ve made and collected over the years.
There are boxes and boxes of foam body parts, fake spiders, and plastic skulls.
“These are all made. Every year we add to it and we make a little more or we make one or two pieces extra or somebody gives us things," Applebaum said.
All of the Halloween decor will be set up outside along the driving path through Hamlin Town Park for Hamlin’s Horrid Halloween Drive-Thru.
“I think it’s a great solution for families to do something together," said Applebaum.
There are some 15 businesses and families that will also be setting up Halloween displays. There will be lots to look at to get you in the Halloween spirit.
“It will be fun and it’s something fun. It is all so dreary around so we need fun and things to make people laugh," Applebaum said.
The starting point for the Halloween drive-thru is Hamlin-Center Road at Soccer Lane. Be sure to vote for your favorite display. The winner will get the Golden Pumpkin Award and $100.
“The whole point of us and all recreation departments is communities to be able to act as communities for their community. So, this is a really important thing. It is important time for people to get together," Applebaum said.
Hamlin’s Horrid Halloween Drive-Thru is Saturday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event is free.
