Ethnic tradition continues on East Avenue where the tastes and sounds of Greece are happening this weekend in Rochester at the annual Greek Festival.

Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church is sharing Greek heritage through dancing, music, products made in Greece, and of course, lots and lot of homemade Greek food, like gyro, souvlaki, loukaniko, spanakopita, pastichio, moussaka, and baklava — from savory to sweet, come hungry!

“The Greek culture has a very, very long history so this is our opportunity to show off not only our Orthodox faith, but to show off our culture," said Father Angelo Maggio. "You are not only going to taste the Greek food, but you are also going to meet the Greek people and the humanity that we have. It is just going to shine through in everybody that is working here.”

There is no admission fee to get in, but any and all donations are given to local charities including this year's main charity, the House of Mercy.

So far the church has raised $20,000.

The Greek Festival takes place at the Greek Orthodox Church on East Avenue, near the George Eastman Museum, and is open Thursday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. each day.
