The Rochester Red Wings' James Wood has been named the International League Player of the Month for May.

The outfielder led the league with a .394 batting average, .506 on-base percentage, .746 slugging percentage and a 1.252 on-base plus slugging percentage across 21 games throughout the month.

A top prospect for the Washington Nationals, Wood was named International Player of the Week for May 3-12 and he becomes Rochester’s first International League Player of the Month since Sept. 2022, when infielder Jake Alu earned the honors.

Wood was originally drafted by the San Diego Padres in the second round of the 2021 MLB Draft, before he was traded to Washington along with five other players for Juan Soto and Josh Bell in Aug. 2022.

In his first full season in the Nationals' organization, he was named to the All-Star Futures Game.
