Rochester native Ryan Callahan is officially retiring from the NHL.

Callahan didn't play last season because of a back injury.

He announced Wednesday morning on Twitter that he won't be returning to the league.

Callahan was a member of the New York Rangers for eight seasons, serving as captain for three of them before spending the last six seasons in Tampa Bay.

He'll finish his 14-year career with 186 goals, 200 assists, and a silver medal from the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.
