ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A Rochester native has been nominated deputy administrator of NASA.

Pamela Melroy has been nominated for the new post by President Joe Biden.

Melroy is a Bishop Kearney graduate and served as a pilot on two space shuttle missions. She also is only one of two women to ever command a space shuttle mission.

Melroy previously served as a test pilot in the U.S. Air Force. She is due to be inducted into the United States Astronaut Hall of Fame later this year.
