Leaders from Ogden and Spencerport have sent a letter to CSX demanding it take action on the Gillett Road bridge.

The Department of Transportation forced the bridge's closure in Dec. 2023 after the DOT said CSX failed to take action on structural concerns.

The Ogden town supervisor is calling on CSX to be a good neighbor.

Local first responders were at the bridge Tuesday talking about how its closure is impacting their ability to get to the scene of an emergency.

"What that translates to is longer response times," said Chief Travis Gray of the Ogden Police Department. "What could typically take three minutes could take 10 because an officer has to detour to the nearest available bridge rather than going over the bridge in front of them."

CSX released a statement in response on Tuesday:

"CSX strives to be a good neighbor in the communities in which we live and work. We appreciate the public's patience as we continue to be actively engaged in constructive conversations with local, county, and federal officials on the future of the Gillett Road Bridge in Spencerport, New York. We will have more information to share on the path forward once it becomes available."
