A 4-year-old boy and his mother who were the subject of an AMBER Alert Saturday in Rochester have been found safe, the Rochester Police Department announced.

Police announced earlier on Saturday afternoon that Michael Williams III, 4, and his mother, Jessica M. Sanchez-Reyes, were abducted from a home on Fulton Avenue at about 1:30 a.m. Police identified their abductor as Daniel Ponder, 24, on Sunday.

According to the RPD Lieutenant Greg Bello, officers responded to the scene at that time after receiving reports that a man was being chased. Bello says police found evidence that shots had been fired, and located the man that was reported having been shot at. Police say an investigation revealed that there was an altercation inside the home and that the victim fled and was chased by someone shooting at him. After the victim and police returned to the home, they found that Williams and Sanchez-Reyes were missing and appeared to have been victims of an abduction.

Police say an investigation led them to execute a search warrant at a house on Kenwood Avenue, but the child and mother were not located.

Following the issuing of the AMBERT Alert, the RPD says investigators received information that the child was at a house on Reynolds Street, where both the child and his mother were found safe.

Bello says the United States Marshal's Task Force located Ponder on Wellington Avenue Saturday night and took him into custody. He was charged with two counts of kidnapping, burglary, assault, criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child.

"This is a heinous crime that was committed in our city, Bello said. "A 4-year-old was forcibly abducted with his mother. So we had two people that were forcibly abducted. We need the community's help our communities help to come together to solve this horrific crime."

Police say an investigation is ongoing and they are working to identify any other suspects they believed may have been involved.

Anyone with information is being asked to call 911.
