PEMBROKE, N.Y. — New York State Police say two people are dead following a single-vehicle crash on I-90.
Investigators say the crash happened Sunday just before 6 p.m. at the Slusser Road overpass in the town of Pembroke.
According to state troopers, Thomas Cartmel, 64, of Crossville, Alabama, and the passenger Deborah Burrelli, 67, of Rochester, were traveling westbound in a pickup truck that was pulling a large trailer when the vehicle veered off the road on the right shoulder. The truck continued through a grassy area before striking the Slusser Road bridge. The impact caused the trailer to detach and come to rest vertically against the side of the bridge.
Police say Burrelli and Cartmel were both pronounced dead at the scene by the Genesee County Coroner. Their bodies were taken to the Monroe County Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
