MANCHESTER, N.Y. — State police say a Fairport man is facing charges after firing a weapon in the direction of the Hill Cumorah complex.

State police say around 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, troopers responded to the Hill Cumorah Visitors' Center on Route 21 in Manchester for a report of a bullet that had struck an apartment window in the complex.

Troopers and Ontario County sheriff's deputies say additional shots were heard after they arrived at the scene.

According to state police, dozens of visitors and residents at the Hill Cumorah complex were sheltered in place until members of law enforcement, including a Wayne County SWAT team, evacuated them to another location.

Following a criminal investigation, police say Michael Bushart, 23, was arrested and charged with first-degree reckless endangerment.

According to troopers, Bushart had been target shooting from farmland west of Hill Cumorah when the incident occurred. A search warrant was executed in Fairport leading to the seizure of several long guns, state police say.

Bushart was arraigned on Thursday morning and released after being placed on pretrial supervision, according to authorities.
