GANANDA, N.Y. — The Wayne County Sheriff's Office says a false report led to a school in the Gananda district being placed on lockdown on Friday.

According to authorities, shortly before 11 a.m. a text was sent to 911 stating there was a kidnapping in progress and someone was inside the Gananda Middle School with a gun.

The building was immediately placed on lockdown, according to the district, and police responded to the scene.

After an investigation and search of the building, police say they determined there was no credible threat and no one was hurt. Police say the message to 911 was sent from inside the building.

Police are now working to reunite children with their families.

The incident remains under investigation. No information was provided about who may have sent the text to 911.
