WEBSTER, N.Y. — The man briskly removed from a Webster CSD Board of Education meeting two weeks ago will not face charges, police say.
During the meeting, a security guard physically forced David Calus to leave. Calus was not wearing a mask. When he refused to put one on, he was removed. The incident was captured on video and shared on social media.
Calus’ son is a student in the district. He says he was planning to address the board about his concerns about masking students. Calus is opposed to school mask mandates.
“Should I have worn a mask?” Calus said. “Maybe, but if I'm there advocating on behalf of my child, you know, to go to school mask-free while I'm wearing a mask, that's really not going to carry a lot of weight, right?”
While the district says Calus was asked to leave, Calus says at no point did that occur.
The Webster Police Department says no actions taken by the security guard or Calus rose to the level of a misdemeanor or a felony. However, police say paperwork has been submitted to the Webster Town Court on behalf of Calus for a complaint of second-degree harassment against the security guard, which is a violation in New York.
