BATAVIA, N.Y. — Schools in Batavia are closed on Friday in response to alleged threats of violence at school buildings that were posted online, the district says.

Besides classes being canceled, all after-school activities are being shut down Friday afternoon and evening.

Batavia police say they are investigating the credibility of the threats, of which specific details have not been released.

Batavia Police Chief Shawn Heubusch is calling on parents to help out saying:

"We remind parents to continue to monitor their child's social media presence and report anything that is suspicious."

A similar threat forced the Olean City School District to also shift to remote learning on Friday. Two schools in the Lockport Central School District were remote on Thursday because of the same issue. Students there are returning to class on Friday with an increased police presence and bag checks at entrances.

School officials are working with authorities to investigate the threats in those districts as well.
