ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Twin brothers, Ronald and Donald Brown, 47, both pleaded not guilty in Rochester City Court Tuesday to second-degree murder charges after the death of Armani Allen, 24.

Authorities say the brothers shot and stabbed Allen to death on St. Paul Street Thursday outside of the RTS bus station.

Rochester police say the U.S. Marshal's Violent Felony Fugitive Task Force tracked down Ronald on Sunday around 9:30 p.m. in the area of North Washington Street and West Linden Avenue in East Rochester. They say he was arrested without incident.

  • The Brown brothers pleaded not guilty Tuesday and will be in court again Friday

Donald was discovered hiding in the basement of a Linden Avenue apartment building around 5:15 a.m. on Monday following the execution of a search warrant by the Monroe County Sheriff's Office SWAT team, police say. He was also arrested without incident.

Armani Allen's family was in the courtroom Tuesday.

His aunt, Yvonne Allen, described Armani as someone who was loved by his family, and someone the younger kids looked up to. She said he was a strong-willed man who was also a natural talent on the drums.

"Armani came from a good family,” Yvonne said. “He had a good heart. Did Armani have troubles like the average African American male in the city of Rochester -- yeah. Did Armani suffer from not having an adequate education through the Rochester school district -- yeah."

Armani's family believes the blame for his death is bigger than the two men accused.

"These kids are lost,” Allen said. “Our education system sucks. You aren't preparing them to be productive citizens. But we're demanding that they do. So until we begin to embrace our kids, we need to take these young men in that's out there lost and start them over.”

Yvonne said this needs to be done by providing jobs young people can work towards and a safe home. She also said she is tired of empty promises in meetings.

"[It’s] lip service,” Allen said. “Talking about it in a meeting and these resources programs. That's dead weight. I've been out here for a long time. Those things are just you telling me to go here. If you're going to try to change a child then you got to really, really change it."

The family applauded the work of the Rochester Police Department for arresting the Brown brothers in East Rochester Monday morning. They urge other people to call the police and tell them anything they know to solve the other murders being investigated in the city.

"Within this culture of violence, we're taking ourselves out,” Allen said. “We need to wake up. We're a blessed family to have had Armani for 24 years. It's a blessing. Would we want more -- definitely. Did we see more for him -- without a doubt. But Armani's gone and right now there's a whole lot of Armanis out there."

Ronald and Donald Brown’s next court date is Friday, November 19.
