ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A Rochester City School District student is recovering after being shot on Wednesday.

The Rochester Police Department says officers responded to the area of Dewey Avenue and Alameda Street around 6:30 a.m. for a reported shooting. At the scene, they say they found a male victim with at least one gunshot wound to the upper body. He was taken to a local hospital for what police say is a non-life-threatening injury.

Police say the victim is a 17-year-old student in the Rochester Central School District who was walking to a bus stop when he was shot.

Neither the school district, nor the police, have released the name of the student.

Police say the incident is under investigation. There has been no word on any suspects.

The Maplewood Neighborhood Association says it's concerned about the increase in crime on Dewey Avenue and the surrounding area.
