IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. — The search for an Irondequoit man wanted in the killing of his girlfriend is over. Seth Larson now faces murder charges after authorities tracked him down in a West Virginia hospital.

Authorities gathered at Irondequoit Police headquarters for the announcement of the big break in a shocking murder case. Larson, wanted for questioning in the death of his girlfriend, Lisa Shuler, now faces murder charges.

"We're here today to announce that Seth Larson has been located in Lewis County, West Virginia," Irondequoit Police Chief Alan Laird said. "The Lewis County Sheriff's Office was notified that Larson had called 911, asking to be taken to the hospital yesterday."

The search for Larson began a week and a half ago, when police discovered a dismembered body at a property on Culver Road in Irondequoit. Shuler lived with Larson. Police said they’d been together for about a decade. Additional remains, also belonging to Shuler, were found in a shallow, marshy area of Durand Lake this week. The spot is about a mile from the Culver Road home.

Laird would not say why Larson called for an ambulance, but that call helped connect the dots.

Larson faces charges of second-degree murder, concealing a human corpse and evidence tampering. Authorities don’t know Larson’s motive, and don’t know how Shuler died.

"It’s still an ongoing investigation," said Sandra Doorley, Monroe County District Attorney. "I just hope you appreciate that we can't put too much out into the public — but we want the public to know that we do feel that we have enough information at this point to charge him with the murder of Lisa Shuler."

One week ago Tuesday, Larson was pulled over by police in Cumberland, Maryland on a vehicle and traffic stop, but that was several hours before authorities learned of Shuler’s death. That discovery was made after a friend called police, worried that they hadn’t seen Shuler in several days.

Authorities will attempt to extradite Larson back to New York to face charges.
