ROCHESTER, N.Y. — New information is emerging about the fatal police shooting of a Rochester man this past Friday.

The details come from an internal notification bulletin sent to all the members of the Rochester Police Department. It's a routine procedure after a homicide or major incident and it contains information that would be released publicly.

In the bulletin, investigators lay out what happened, starting with a man seen on camera shooting at a passing car on Lyell Ave. Police say the alleged shooter is then seen getting into the rear passenger seat of the car officers pulled over minutes later on Glasser Street.

The description of that man matches Mark Gaskill, according to police.

Investigators say after the car is pulled over, Gaskill provides a false name and repeatedly refuses to get out of the car when police ask more questions about his identity. When an officer tried to open the front door, investigators say he sees Gaskill raise a gun and tells him to drop it. When Gaskill opens the door and tries to get out, officers shoot, hitting Gaskill five to six times.

The memo states the Monroe County Crime Lab confirmed the bullet casings recovered on Lyell Ave match Gaskill's gun.

The New York State Attorney General's Office is investigating the shooting. The officers involved remain on administrative leave while that investigation continues.
