WEBSTER, N.Y. — Webster police say alcohol and speed played a role in a deadly crash involving six teenagers on November 1.

The car slammed into a tree on Gasberry Lane and caught fire. The driver, Brody Spade, 18, was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police say his blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit.

The five others in the car, ranging in age from 16 to 18, were all taken to local hospitals with various injuries but survived.

"We are asking young people in our community to please be cautious and make good decisions when socializing with friends. Please do not drink and drive," said Webster Police Chief Joe Rieger.

Just one person in the car was wearing a seatbelt. Police say all six had attended a drinking party at a house in Webster. Spade was a 2020 graduate of Webster Scroeder. Five of the six in the car that night had ties to the Webster School District.

The host of the party, who’s a minor, is also facing charges. Because of their age, the case is being handled in family court. Police say the parents were not aware of the party and won’t face charges.
