Irondequoit Town Supervisor Dave Seeley confirms a child attending a town summer camp last week has since tested positive for COVID-19. This child attended what's called "Older Camp" at Camp Eastman on Monday, July 6.
The town says anyone who had close contact with this camper has been contacted by the county health department. All the campers in the child's group have been directed to quarantine for 14 days.
Irondequoit's recreation director says summer camp is split up into groups of 10 children and two counselors. These groups are kept apart from each other and use separate equipment that is routinely sanitized.
Supervisor Seeley says there is low likelihood that the child contracted the virus at the camp. He adds that the county department of health has not expressed any issues with how the rec department holds its summer camp.
