The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says a mother and daughter who disappeared from Perinton have been found safe.

Deputies say on Tuesday they were called to Honeysuckle Terrace in Perinton to check on Lakysha Cox, 35, and Kani Cox, 15, after the two hadn't been seen in days.

Deputies searched the residence and say it appears the two moved unexpectedly without notifying any family, friends, the Fairport School District, or apartment complex staff.

The neighborhood was also searched and family members were interviewed. Deputies also spoke with the apartment complex manager. As a result of those interviews, police say they believe Lakysha was last seen by apartment complex staff on February 6 and made her last communication with family members via text on February 8.

Kani had been absent from Fairport High School since February 10.

Due to the unusual circumstances of their disappearance, sheriff's deputies reached out to the public for help.

On Thursday evening, the sheriff's office reported it had made contact with the missing mother and daughter thanks to information it received which aided its investigation.
