A First Student bus driver, who was arrested and charged after allegedly injuring a 9-year-old RCSD student, pleaded not guilty in Rochester City Court.

Jennifer Denegal, 26, of Rochester, is charged with third-degree assault. She was noticably upset during Wednesday's Proceedings.

Rochester police say on January 7 the student, Leila Shaughnessy, arrived at School 52 and reported the incident. She was taken to the hospital where she was treated for a concussion.

Police say Denegal "thrust her body into the victim" causing her to fall onto the floor and hit her head.

Denegal's attorney is fighting the assault charge.

"It's pretty clear that nobody's actually making an allegation that there was a push, a shove, any type of physical act other than an eight-month pregnant woman moving a student out of the way after the student had already engaged in certain behavior in the back that required her to be separated from other students," said Attorney Mark Foti.

Denegal left court without comment. She is due back in court in March.
