Officers arrested a homicide suspect early Friday morning after tracking him across three counties.

The incident began Thursday night in Canandaigua. The Ontario County Sheriff's Office says just before 9:30 p.m. deputies responded to a 911 call for an assault in progress at a home on West Lake Road, just north of Butler Road.

When deputies arrived, they found a 58-year-old woman dead inside the home. Sheriff Kevin Henderson says she had been stabbed multiple times. A 60-year-old man was also found inside the home with stab wounds. He was treated by first responders and air-lifted to a Rochester hospital. Officials say he is currently in stable condition.

"We're attempting to develop information in this investigation. So at this point, we're trying to determine the cause here," said Sheriff Kevin Henderson.

Sheriff Henderson said the suspect in the case fled the scene in a car.

Not long after the attack, police responded to a scene where a car had crashed in a ditch on Route 31F in Macedon, near Monroe-Wayne County Line Road. A person was seen leaving the vehicle and running into a wooded area near Perinton Golf & Country Club.

Around 1:30 a.m. Friday, police converged on a West Irondequoit neighborhood and surrounded a home on Tyringham Road. It was there that officers arrested the man they believe is the suspect in the Canandaigua attack. Police have not said how the suspect made it from the crash scene in Macedon to the house in Irondequoit.

The suspect was taken to the hospital for treatment of an injury that police say was not related to his arrest. He remains in custody, but has not yet been charged with a crime.

Police are still investigating what led up to the attack. They have not yet released the names of the victims or the man who was arrested, but they did say the suspect and the victims knew each other.

The incident involved six different police agencies, including deputies from Ontario, Wayne and Monroe counties as well as the New York State Police and officers from the Macedon and Irondequoit police departments.
