New York State Supreme Court Justice Matthew Rosenbaum has been removed from the bench following allegations of misconduct.

According to Lucian Chalfen, the director of public information for the New York State Unified Court System, Rosenbaum has been relieved of all of his judicial duties by the State Commission on Judicial Conduct. That includes Rosenbaum's position as supervising judge of the civil courts for his district. His cases have also been reassigned and his access to non-public areas of the courthouse has been restricted.

The action taken against Rosenbaum follows allegations of misconduct that were brought to the attention of the Office of Court Administration.

Rosenbaum was appointed to the New York State Supreme Court in 2005 and elected to a full term later that same year. He is part of the 7th district which oversees Monroe County. Rosenbaum was reelected in November 2019, but Chalfen says he will decline to take office on January 1, 2020 as an elected state supreme court justice.

Chalfen did not give details on the allegations against Rosenbaum but says if the investigation warrants it, the case may be referred to the Monroe County District Attorney.
