The Ontario County Humane Society is giving the public its first look at the six puppies that were seized during a traffic stop Town of Richmond. The dogs are now being cared for at the Happy Tails Animal Shelter in Canandaigua.

The woman driving the car, Jane Justice, 70, is facing animal cruelty charges because the puppies were infested with parasites and fleas. She and her husband Richard were previously charged with animal cruelty after 85 dogs were taken from their home in Naples.

The mixed terrier breeds are said to be four to five weeks old and weigh in at just about two pounds. They've been at the shelter since Friday.

Unfortunately, they are not quite ready for adoption. The shelter says the pups need time to grow before they are old enough to be neutered and sent to new homes.

"It's going to be a little bit draining but nothing like the first 85 and they are actually pretty self-sufficient at eating. So now we're looking at bottle feedings and that type of thing," said Shelter Manager Dianne Faas.

You can call and inquire about the pups, as well as submit an application to be considered for an adoption waiting list. The shelter says they are also welcoming support and visitors to the office. You can contact the Happy Tails Animal Shelter at 585-396-4590.
