It was a busy night for Rochester police as they investigate a rash of shootings Sunday into Monday.

  • Five separate shootings in just five hours from late Sunday into early Monday
  • Shootings took place in northeast, northwest, west, and southwest sides of the city
  • No injuries are life-threatening

Police said five separate shooting incidents took place in just in about five hours — and this series of events happened just one day after RPD was investigating two other shootings from late Saturday and early Sunday.

The first incident took place on Warehouse Street around 7:38 p.m. Sunday. Officers were responding to the area of Lake and Saratoga avenues, on the city's northwest side, for reports of a man being shot at it. A U-Haul truck that man was operating was struck by gunfire, but he was not. Police said that man was shot at while preparing to unload the moving truck at a storage facility on Warehouse Street. Police said this investigation is ongoing and that the suspect and victim did know each other.

The second incident took place about an hour later, at approximately 8:47 p.m. on Manitou Street, on the city's northeast side, where officers reported a call for a shot-spotter. At around the same time, a 20-year-old man was driven to a nearby hospital in a private vehicle with at least one gunshot wound to his torso. Police said his wounds do not appear to be life-threatening. Officials said it appeared there was a cookout of some kind at the location where the shooting occurred, but added the motive and circumstances regarding the shooting were still under investigation.

The third incident took place a little more than an hour later, around 9:57 p.m. near Jefferson Avenue and Shelter Street in the city's southwest side, where officers responded to the sounds of a gunshot in the area. Officers soon discovered a victim with a least one gunshot wound to his lower body. Police said several people were seen running from the area and they were detained by officers. Officials said the 20-year-old victim was walking down Shelter Street when he was shot for an unknown reason. He was taken to a hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.

The fourth incident took place around 12:30 a.m. Monday in the area of Bauman Street, back on the city's northeast side, where officers heard gun shots and later found an 18-year-old city resident who was shot at least once in his upper body. He was taken to a hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. Officials said that investigation is ongoing as well.

The fifth incident took place around 12:48 a.m. when officers responded to gun shots in the area of Potter Street, on the city's west side. While officers were investigating, a walk-in gunshot victim arrived at a Rochester hospital. The victim was a 28-year-old non-city resident and his injuries are considered non-life threatening. Police said this investigation is ongoing.

Officials ask anyone with information in connection to any of these shootings to call 911.
