ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley has announced her bid for re-election.

She cites the high rates of homicide and illegal weapons charges as the focus of her potential fourth term.

Doorley released this statement on Wednesday:

“I am elated to once again announce my re-election for Monroe County District Attorney. Working to make Monroe County a safer place to live is my life’s passion and I cannot wait to continue to make a difference. I began serving this community in 1992 as a prosecutor for Monroe County and I have worked for over thirty years, the last 11 as your district attorney, to keep our home safe by prioritizing justice and putting violent offenders behind bars. I have fought for the victims of crime, I have fought for the law enforcement agencies in our community, and I will fight for my office and the good work we do for Monroe County.

"With a record-setting number of homicides and an unprecedented number of illegal weapon charges, an experienced district attorney is more important than ever. I know that I am the right person to continue this work and make this community safer. My primary responsibility to the people of Monroe County is to hold violent offenders accountable and make it a safer place for everyone to live. I pledge to do just that. I look forward to this next chapter and to once again, serve the people of Monroe County as their district attorney.”

Doorley has served as the county DA for more than a decade. She started as a member of the Democratic Party before switching to the GOP in 2015.
