IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. — For the last five and a half years, Dave Seeley walked through the doors at Irondequoit Town Hall as supervisor.
Now, he has just more than a month left in office.
“And that’s why it’s hard to leave," Seeley said. "It’s really been a dream job to serve my hometown.”
Just five months after announcing he won’t seek re-election, Seeley revealed Wednesday morning that he’ll be stepping down before the end of his term.
Seeley said he notified the town board that he has accepted a new position.
While he can’t say what it is, Seeley says the position will be in line with his passion for public service.
“That was the arc I wanted to continue down,” he said. “And use the tools I learned here to help me in this position to help the broader community.
From adding parks to improving the former Medley Centre, the town supervisor said he’s proud he helped changed the narrative around Irondequoit during his time in office. But whoever fills his spot permanently will take on a task Seeley wishes he could’ve gotten his hands on.
“Twenty-three million dollars received from the federal government to invest in community rescue plan to help people with COVID relief,” he said. “Whoever takes over gets to put their head together with town board.”
Some community members were concerned about the supervisor not finishing his term, and Seeley understands where they’re coming from. But he wants to remind them that government of Irondequoit will continue.
“We’ll continue on that trajectory of progress we helped pave for ourselves,” Seeley said.
Per state law, Deputy Supervisor John Perticone will become acting supervisor through the end of the year.
